There was a recent Knock-off Viagra seized in raid Counterfeit drugs sold online and in sex shops, police say as published in The Ottawa Sun
In MONTREAL which was the first time in Quebec, the RCMP busted a major network that was producing and distributing counterfeit drugs.
During the investigation which led to nine arrests, 11 properties being searched and the seizure of 15,000 counterfeit pills for erectile dysfunction.
The tablets and various different kinds of pills, which were sold over the Internet and in a handful of Montreal sex shops, resemble the regular varieties available by prescription. The same looking versions are more or less identical in size, shape and colour to Viagra manufactured by Pfizer.
Other than the counterfeit drugs, police also seized 50 lbs. of marijuana, and some firearms and a small amount of cash during raids on Thursday.
The group’s leaders are believed to be among the six men and two women that were arrested. It is very likely that they may face a string of fraud charges, including conspiracy to commit fraud, trademark counterfeiting and distribution of copyrighted material.
The main objective of this news is POISONING DANGER and in addition to being illegal, these bogus medications could lead to harmful side-effects.
“Most of the cases, there are no active (medical) ingredients, and in others the dosage is too high,” explained Health Canada’s Sylvie Cantin. “In the worst cases, poisoning is possible.”
Cantin suggested to people to be on their guard and always make sure the container of the product they’re buying includes an eight-digit code that starts with DIN or NPN.
The representative of RCMP’s federal investigation branch Noel Saint-Hilaire, cautioned against buying any drugs or medications over the Internet. “Buying medication over the Internet other than the a pharmacy, it’s inevitably going to be counterfeit,” she said. There are only few online pharmacies which have their reputation of dispensing quality medicines and bind to ethics such as www.genericmedicine.com
It is now a growing trend and has become a major concern to law enforcement as the commercialization of counterfeit drugs and medication as a growing trend.
It is very much ascertained the counterfeit versions of cancer medication, heart drugs and even appetite suppressants are sold widely on the black market, which includes the Internet,” Saint-Hilaire added. Be sure that you get your quality generic medicine from a reputed online pharmacy such as genericmedicine.com
